The mission of the Watershed Science section is to generate historical
and spatial scientific data, investigate and understand watershed processes,
and to provide state-of-the-art scientific and engineering analyses to
policymakers, planners, and resource managers in the State of Illinois and
beyond so that they can develop and implement sustainable watershed programs
based on the best scientific and engineering analyses possible.
It is the goal of the Illinois
State Water Survey to be a recognized expert in the State of Illinois
in the field of watershed science with special technical expertise in
hydrologic, atmospheric, chemical, and watershed studies including monitoring
and data collection; analyses, assessment and research; modeling; reconstruction,
rehabilitation and restoration; GIS and data management; and public
outreach. Our scientific and technical experts play significant
roles in science-based evaluation of environmentally sound, sustainable,
and integrated watershed management plans and practices in the State of
Illinois and beyond.
