BackgroundWater is a precious resource. But have you ever really asked yourself "What is water?" This may seem a simple question, but with the variety of roles water plays in our everyday lives, its uses seem endless. Each day in Illinois, water is used for drinking, bathing, and washing our dishes - but it is also used for navigation, in support of aquatic habitats and wildlife, in industry, and as a source of power. Illinois is a water-rich state, and water supplies vary widely for each use. The Illinois State Water Survey has answered some basic questions about water supply issues, and the answers are here on this Web site.
