Rains were widespread across Illinois since last Wednesday, producing 1.92 inches of rain. This is twice the normal weekly rainfall of 0.90 inches. As a result, Illinois has received slightly above normal rainfall for the first half of August (2.26 inches compared to a normal of 2.16 inches). Even so, Illinois is still 7.49 inches below normal on rainfall since March 1.

The consensus of the recent rains is that it was too late for corn but may be of limited benefit to soybeans. The forecast from the National Weather Service calls for a chance of showers and thunderstorms through the weekend. Amounts from these events are expected to be fairly light. The latest 6-10 day forecast calls for the likelihood of near-normal temperatures and below-normal precipitation.
