Conditions deteriorated this week
as only 0.34 inches of rain fell statewide, 36 percent of normal, during
the period from August 4-10. Meanwhile, temperatures were 3.9 degrees
above normal. As a result, the Illinois Agriculture Statistics Service
reported that surface soil moisture went from 52 percent to 68 percent
in the "very short" category across the state. Much of northern and western
