A strong cold front pushed through Illinois on Tuesday and Wednesday, bringing widespread rains across the state as well as relief from the hot, humid weather. Precipitation totals were generally 1 to 3 inches across northern and eastern Illinois, while amounts of less than an inch were reported in southern Illinois. Even with the rains, the long-term rainfall deficits remain large in northern and western Illinois. See Figures.

Amazingly, state-wide rainfall for the first 27 days of July is near-normal thanks to the plentiful rains in southern and eastern Illinois.
