Since June of 2000,
the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (DNR) and the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (IEPA) have worked together toward formulation of a means and strategy
to better identify, plan for, and address the numerous and diverse water quantity issues in the State. Given DNR’s long history and legislated mandates involving
water quantity issues, the responsibility for creation and implementation of a Water Supply Planning and Management Strategic Plan was presented to DNR. This web-site
has been developed to provide public access to documents that provide a framework for the development of a strategy to address important water quantity issues in
Illinois. Additional documents will be added that address best management practices for in-stream flow protection and well interference.
