Statement of Purpose
The primary functions of the Illinois State Water Survey Library are to provide information and collect materials to support Survey research programs, to collect materials pertaining to Illinois research, and to make these resources available to the public.

About the Collection
The Library's collection emphasizes groundwater studies, hydrology, meteorology, public water supply and treatment methods, drinking water and wastewater, and water-use planning and policy. The collection focuses on Illinois and surrounding states; however, some materials on other areas are also available. Significant collections include: materials on global climate change; Water Survey publications; and documents from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, U.S. Geological Survey, and various Illinois agencies.

Public Services
The Library is open to the public. Requests for materials can be made through interlibrary loan. The ISWS Library is a member of OCLC with over 10,000 holdings in WorldCAT. Reference services include: locating and obtaining journal articles, references, and publications; verifying and completing citations; conducting literature searches; preparing subject bibliographies.
