The Biogeochemist works with scientists and engineers across the Survey to strengthen interdisciplinary approaches to addressing complex environmental issues. The Biogeochemist also critically analyzes, interprets, and synthesizes chemical, physical, and biological data to improve the understanding of the sources, transport, transformation, and fate of chemicals, suspended solids, and all phases of the hydrologic cycle. Dr. Edward Krug became Biogeochemist in February 2000. In addition to the responsibilities stated above, he integrates Survey activities and interests with those of other agencies. In this regard, he currently serves as a member of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Regional Technical Advisory Group and the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency’s Nutrient Science Committee.
