Here is plot of global annual temperature using data provided by scientists in the Climate Research Unit, University of East Anglia, UK. Calculating the Earth's temperature is more challenging than first appears. Changes in sites, exposure, instruments, procedures, and observers can introduce errors and biases into the data. Observations before 1900 were more sparse and were concentrated in the land areas of the northern hemisphere. Attempts have been made to adjust for these and other issues with the data. A description of how this particular dataset was created can be found in Brohan et al. 2005. Other groups that have calculated global temperatures include NASA's Goddard Institute for Space Studies (GIS) and the U.S. National Climatic Data Center.
